Two front teeth

If you hold Will upside down and shake him until he laughs, you can get a good view of his brand new two front teeth.

Missing my peeps in the east

Today when I was dying of boredom at my desk trying to finish up compliance training, I laughed out loud  thinking back to my recent trip East and Heather saying to some innocent dipshit at a restaurant “I don’t have time for stupid people.” Then I got completely homesick. A group of us that have known each other since kindergarten went out on the Friday I flew in and I just feel so lucky to have such wonderful people in my life, and it's hard to be so far from them. I’m not all hating on SJ or the bay area, but it's not the same. I miss friends, family and being near a real city (don't get me wrong, SF is absolutely adorable... all 7 square miles of it... but it does not count as a "real" city) and I do love SJ - it has so much to offer Jake and Will, but I miss my peeps! Thankfully, just as I was tearing up, a text popped up from a friend to meet for drinks tonight. See, not so bad, no so bad at all….

My little artist

Jake called to me tonight as I was trying to get Will doused with motrin (I. Hate. Teething... especially at night) to show me the car he drew on his chalkboard. If I was speaking to you in person I'd totally do air quotes around car because anything he draws is a scribble (see top portion of chalkboard). I grudgingly put on a happy face and sauntered over to the chalkboard ready to do my "oh wow!" reaction to make sure I wasn't doing anything to screw with his self-esteem when I saw THIS. A car!!! An actual shape! With actual shape wheels! I think it may even be an abstract illustration of the Oscar Meyer weinermobile!

Six month checkup

Dave brought Will in for his 6-month checkup just last week (he's always a couple weeks behind on his checkups because of the whole RSV thing in the beginning). He's 21 pounds and 29 inches, so he's no longer off the charts, but up there in the 90th percentile. He's just barely sitting up, and Dave and I were worried because he kind of fights you if you try to make him sit (he won't bend at the waist) but Dr. Tan said that's just him being stubborn - the he doesn't like to sit but rather stand. So I think we're technically behind on that milestone and definitely nowhere near crawling, but he can pull his hat off by himself!

Twins

I'm so mad the Russell Sage bookstore was closed last weekend!

Bundled up

While the East Coast was battling the horrible heat wave this past week, we had to dress like it was fall for a chilly morning walk to the park.

Missing them already...

I'm leaving these two little guys for the weekend to go to my college roommate's wedding. I dropped Jake at daycare this morning and we decided not to tell him I was going back east... he has issues with me leaving lately, even for a quick happy hour, ("mommy needs a drink!" just doesn't seem to register with him). So I gave him extra kisses and hugs when I dropped him until he yelled "Mom stop!" And I'll get some Will time before I need to go to the airport.

I'm sad to leave them but man am I excited to fly without them! I can't believe I'm going to be on a plane where all I have to do is worry about myself! Let's take bets on the chances of me being seated near a screaming baby or whiney toddler. :)

Six months, one day

I never get to properly update this blog anymore because I'm always posting from my phone, and if you're a recipient of my texts, you know I need to stick to a 140 character limit or there's going to be confusing typos (I could have my own damnyouautocorrect.com). But hey, now I'm back at work and this is a perfect lunchtime activity!

Here's more about our now six-month-old (!!!) William! He's the happiest, sweetest baby you'll ever meet, but unfortunately our friends and family didn't really witness that because by the time he really got over his jet lag and was back to normal, it was time to leave. I realized last week he was also probably going through a growth spurt when we were back there -- when we left his truck footie pj's were roomy, but when I tried to put him in them at Vishal and Allison's, I had to smoosh him in and realized he couldn't straighten his legs! Jake was a big baby but started to become more average on the growth charts around this age, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Will is still going to be off the charts. It's funny to see him in outfits like the one above (size 12-18 months) that Jake was wearing when he was running around. We'll see how big Will is next week at his checkup (ack! shots!).

He has taken to every bit of food we've given him (pears, bananas, and squash) and since I documented every day of Jake's life (poor Will doesn't even have a baby book), I know that Jake took about two weeks to catch on to eating solids and definitely had preferences. Will has gobbled everything up and the poor kid is just so hungry we don't even have to put a bib on him. He pretty much licks his own lips and makes sure every bit makes it into his mouth.

He goes everywhere with Cowie, and hasn't really taking a liking to Sophie like Jake did. He's having a hard time getting his two front teeth to cut through, and Dave and I have spent a small fortune on teething toys, but Will still prefers to chew on Cowie's udders (sorry, Cowie!). I'm guessing that's going to be his 'safety blanket' instead of a blankie like Jake has.

We're just a few weeks off until he starts daycare at Julie's. I'm happy that I won't be as worried this time as I was with Jake since we know her so well. And I can't wait to get him on a nap schedule!

We're toying with the idea of taking one more trip before Dave goes back to work. He's going back to a busy time on the movie, so it'll be 6-12 months of lots of hours and we probably won't have a chance to do anything or even have full weekends together. The only problem is our happy, sweet meatball is a terror in the car. He SCREAMS. I can't blame him - if I was a giant baby and someone smooshed me into an infant car seat, I'd cry too!

Six months

Our little meatball is six months old today... time flies!

Davis

We spent this Saturday in Davis with Vishal, Allison, Jay and Deven. We had a great time and the boys are getting to the ages where they play together well (minus Will). So much fun, and although it sounds strange, totally relaxing. I get a little uptight and nervous when we have any sort of get together with girls because Jake is just SO boy (i.e., troublemaker). Jay and Deven are 100% boy too, so even though we dealt with a lot of wrestling, yelling, and almost getting kicked out of the Sacramento Railroad Museum (and in defense of our kids, Vishal put it best when he said, "Why do you have wide open spaces if they can't run!?") it was a blast. We had to cut our usual weekend visit to a day because Will can't seem to sleep through the night lately, but we're looking forward to another trip up to see them. Jake put it best when we pulled up to their house and he yelled "We're going to get pumpkins!"

Oh, my highlight of the trip? We lost Jake in their house and finally when I was just about to panic I tracked him down in Allison and Vishal's master closet, just sitting in there with the door closed. Before I could yell at him, he looked up at me wide-eyed and said, "Mom, this house has so many rooms!" :)

Jay and Deven were in love with Will!

Jake could still take him or leave him... :)

Bath time!

My favorite... tell me you're not laughing out loud. Little 2 1/2 year old Deven holding big Will.

Cars 2

Jake at his first movie, "Cars 2." He did better than expected, especially since the movie wasn't really that great (and I'm not just saying that because I'm a loyal PDI/DreamWorks fan.)

Look ma!

Jake braved the roller coaster at Happy Hallow this weekend without hanging on! I had one hand across him the entire time in a panic.
